Add flashcard by default using N?

My understanding of a "flashcard" is that there will be one main side, that you see, as well as a hidden side, that you should try to recall. If it's hard for you to recall, it'll have to be reviewed earlier (in general).

However, it seems like whenever I press "N" inside Mochi, it doesn't create a flashcard, but a single-sided card (which I'll call a "business card" from now on).

I'm curious what the motivation behind this was, since I presume most people adding cards are probably trying to add flashcards. I didn't see a way to change the default behavior, either!

Am I missing anything or is it just not an option?

So in Mochi the most basic type of card is what I will call a "note card" (what you are calling "business card" above). It is a single-sided markdown card suitable for creating zettelkasten-style notes, or flashcards with hidden text, for example.

However by adding three dashes (---) somewhere on the card, you can split the card into two sides. The content above the line will be displayed on the "front" and the content below the card will be displayed on the "back".

If you want most or all of the cards you're creating for a particular deck to be multi-sided you can create a template to streamline the process, or use the already included "Basic flashcard" template.

Thanks for the response. I could use hidden text, but during reviews that would mean clicking to reveal it each time, which seems a bit less convenient. Importing a CSV with front and back fields is easier, and that’s what I’m doing now. I also appreciate the tip about the three-dashes workaround.

One question: is it possible to set a default card type, so that when I press “N,” all new cards use that type automatically?

You can also use the space bar to reveal hidden text.

It's not so much a workaround as a core mechanic of the app. (almost) Everything is built on top of the markdown engine, including templates.

Yes you can set a template for the deck and all new cards will use that template.
