When text is hidden during review, the mask keeps roughly the width of the hidden words, and with "Type hidden text" on, the input box does the same. The size of the blank becomes a hint: a short blank means a short word, a long one means a phrase, and on a card with several blanks you can often tell which answer goes where just by length. For recall practice, this gives away part of the answer.
Request: an option to give every blank the same width, whatever the hidden text is:
- Without typing: every hidden text shows as the same fixed-width mask until revealed.
- Typing ("Type hidden text" on): every input box starts at the same fixed width and grows only with what you type, never with the length of the expected answer.
The hidden text appears only on reveal, or after the typed answer is checked, as today.
I'm not asking for a particular look. Anki shows [...], which works for a static blank but not for
an input box. What matters is that the width stops depending on the answer, in both modes.
A toggle next to "Type hidden text" would be enough; per deck or per template would be a bonus (a vocabulary deck may want the length cue, a deck of long technical sentences may not). Off by default, so existing cards look the same.
